ABOUT OKT FARM STUDIO

OKT Farms’ studio’s custom rings made from local and special woods.

OKT Farms, LLC is located in Oxford NC. It is an offshoot of Matt Currin’s original farm which was established in 1900. Wendy Tatum, artist and company president, is Matt Currin’s Great-Great Granddaughter. Her and her husband, George Tatum, hand build the world's finest wood rings right there in the farm studio. Each ring is custom made out of salvaged/repurposed wood, fallen limbs and trees, and discarded wood scraps from either their farm (in forest-management) or scrap wood from Borden’s sawmill.

Borden’s Saw-mill is an old-fashioned sawmill located in Gloucester Virginia a few hours North East from Oxford. Greg Sprock, one of George’s childhood friends, runs the sawmill as a heritage operation. Waste scrap, too small for large furniture, becomes the base wood for many of OKT studio’s ring sets. You can virtually visit Borden’s Sawmill on Facebook.

Rings of only one type of wood are $50.

Burl is considered to have the element of magic in addition to the other characteristics. Here is a dynamic list of the various properties and characteristics of tree woods.

  • Because maple trees take so long to grow to their most mature height, they are a common symbol of patience.

  • Oak is the "king of trees" and symbolizes wisdom, strength and longevity.

  • Elm trees represent life and eternal wisdom. No wonder so many college campuses plant elms along their entrances.

  • Maple trees represent balance, longevity, and generosity. One reason behind this symbolism is that maple trees have the ability to adapt to many different soil types and climates.

  • Fir trees are a symbol of honesty, truth, and forthrightness because of the way they grow straight like a tower. When grouped together they symbolize long-lasting friendship because of their evergreen display.

  • Yew Trees symbolize longevity.because of their long lives. The oldest yew is thought to be at least 3,000years old.

  • Teak wood symbolizes wealth and power, implying steady and advanced career development.

  • The Red Oak is often associated with passion and absolute love. It's probably because of its vivid color, its leaves that turn red in the autumn and its ever-shining appearance that the Red Oak represents passionate and absolute love. When we talk about red, a feeling comes immediately to mind:"passion".

The oak tree, with its sturdy trunk and sprawling branches, represents strength, longevity, and endurance. The acorn, the fruit of the oak tree, symbolises potential, growth, and prosperity.

  • Myanmar's national flower, the Padauk (𝘗𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘱𝘶𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘱𝘶𝘴), blooms afterthe first showers in April, which is also when the Myanmar New Year is celebrated. With its tiny, golden-yellow flowers, the Padauk symbolises strength, love, youth, and romance.
